The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Dharamsala, conducted its weekly Sunday outpatient department (OPD) at IMA Bhawan, where 30 patients, including children, received specialist medical consultations. The initiative aims to make specialist healthcare accessible to people who cannot visit hospitals on regular working days.
Specialist Doctors Volunteer Services
The OPD was led by Dr Atul Gupta, a paediatric endocrinologist; Dr CS Rathore, an ENT specialist; and Dr Ankit Shukla, a general surgeon. These doctors voluntarily examined and treated patients from Dharamsala and surrounding areas, offering their expertise free of charge.
Emphasis on Early Diagnosis
Dr Atul Gupta, president of IMA-Dharamsala, stated that the initiative is designed to ensure early consultation and timely diagnosis, which are essential to prevent complications and improve health outcomes, especially for children and patients with chronic illnesses. He highlighted that many individuals avoid seeking medical help due to weekday work commitments, and the Sunday OPD bridges this gap.
Positive Public Response
The initiative received an encouraging response from the community, with patients expressing appreciation for the availability of specialist services on a Sunday. IMA-Dharamsala reaffirmed its commitment to serving the community through regular healthcare and public welfare initiatives, planning to continue the Sunday OPD program.
