Ajay Devgn is brimming with excitement as the release of Dhamaal 4 approaches, the latest chapter in the beloved comedy franchise. At the trailer launch held on Friday, the actor candidly discussed why sequels continue to thrive in Bollywood and what draws audiences to franchise films. He also honestly admitted that even after decades in the film industry, he still experiences pre-release jitters.
Ajay Devgn admits he still feels nervous before every release
When reporters at the trailer launch asked Ajay whether the pressure of box-office expectations still affects him before a film's release, the actor gave a straightforward response. He said, "Thoda bahut toh rehta hai. Aapne itni mehnat ki hai toh film audience ko pasand aani chahiye aur chalni chahiye. Toh koshish toh yahi rehti hai ki film aisi banaye ki logon ko pasand aaye. Toh jab film release ho rahi hoti hai toh thoda pressure mein sab hi aate hain." (There is always a little bit of pressure. When you have worked so hard on a film, you naturally want the audience to like it and for it to do well. The effort is always to make a film that people will enjoy. So when the film is about to be released, everyone feels a certain amount of pressure.)
Ajay Devgn reveals the secret behind a successful sequel
Ajay also shared his insights on what makes a sequel truly succeed, emphasizing that it hinges on how much the audience adores the characters. He explained, "I think sequel tabhi work karta hai jab uske characters logon ko pasand aajaye. Chahe yeh (Dhamaal 4) le lijiye, Golmaal le lijiye. Woh characters ko naam se jaante hain. Ek baar characters ke saath audience jud jaati hai na toh we can take the story forward." (I think a sequel works only when the audience connects with and likes its characters. Whether it's this franchise or something like Golmaal, people know those characters by name. Once the audience forms a bond with the characters, we can continue taking the story forward.)
All about the Dhamaal franchise
The Dhamaal journey began in 2007 with the release of the original film, followed by its sequel Double Dhamaal in 2011, which carried forward the beloved characters from the first installment. The third chapter, Total Dhamaal, marked Ajay Devgn's entry into the franchise and was equally well received at the box office. With all three films proving their commercial mettle, the much-awaited fourth installment is now set to hit theatres on July 10.
