Actor Ayushmann Khurrana has opened up about his early brush with fame following his victory on the reality show 'MTV Roadies,' confessing that he once behaved like a “deep red flag” in his relationship with his now-wife, Tahira Kashyap. During a candid conversation on Raunaq Rajani’s YouTube channel, while promoting the film 'Pati Patni Aur Woh Do,' Ayushmann shared how winning the show at the age of 20 led him to make a decision he later regretted.
The Breakup After Roadies
Ayushmann recalled telling Tahira, who was his girlfriend at the time, that he needed to focus on himself after his reality show success. “I have gone through a similar situation. I was 20 at that time. I said the same things to my girlfriend, who is now my wife. She started laughing and asked me, ‘What has happened to you?’ I had just won Roadies, but in my head, I was the most popular guy in Chandigarh,” he said. He added, “I broke up with her for a while to focus on myself. I was like, ‘I don’t have time for relationships. I have to invest time in myself.’”
A Short-Lived Separation
The breakup, however, did not last long. Just six months later, Ayushmann realized his mistake and reconciled with Tahira. The couple eventually tied the knot when he was 24. Reflecting on this phase, Ayushmann humorously noted how men often evolve over time. “Men have this deep tendency of starting off as a huge red flag and then suddenly becoming a green flag by the time they are in their mid-30s. I think it’s a journey we all take. I think I am a green flag now,” he joked.
Connecting Real Life to 'Vicky Donor'
The actor also drew parallels between his personal experiences and his breakthrough film 'Vicky Donor,' in which he played a sperm donor. By the time he signed the film, he was already a father of two. “Even before starting Vicky Donor, I was already a father. I took method acting a bit too seriously,” he quipped. He further revealed that he had actually donated sperm during a task on 'Roadies.' “I have donated sperm for real. It was part of a Roadies task. They used to check our sperm count. I was just 20 then. Nothing was shown on screen, only the results were revealed. And I won the task,” he said. This revelation left co-stars Sara Ali Khan, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Rakul Preet Singh amused, with Rakul asking, “You donated sperm, and then you did Vicky Donor?”
Upcoming Projects
Ayushmann Khurrana will next be seen in Sooraj Barjatya’s 'Yeh Prem Mol Liya' alongside Sharvari, as well as Dharma Productions’ 'Udta Teer' with Sara Ali Khan. The actor continues to balance his personal and professional life, now embracing his role as a “green flag husband.”
