Ayushmann Khurrana Says No Taboo Topics Left, Shifts to Family Films

Actor Ayushmann Khurrana, who built much of his career on bold and taboo-breaking subjects, has now stated that this chapter may be behind him. In a candid conversation, the actor opened up about his shift toward more relatable and family-friendly films, explaining how the post-pandemic box office reality shaped this decision.

No More Taboo Topics

From sperm donation in his debut film Vicky Donor (2012) to erectile dysfunction in Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017), Ayushmann made taboo subjects his signature. However, speaking on The Right Angle with Sonal Kalra, the actor was clear that he has nothing more to offer on that path. When asked which taboo subject he would want to explore next, Ayushmann said, "I think I have finished all taboo topics (laughs). I have worked in so many films based on them. It limits the family audience. I did films on taboo subjects before the Covid pandemic. Even after that, I did Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui and Doctor G, which didn't get as much at the box office as I hoped for."

Post-Pandemic Shift

Ayushmann acknowledged that the pandemic marked a turning point, both for Bollywood and for his own choices as an actor. He added, "After OTT became big, I only looked for films that were for wider audiences. More than breaking taboos, I now seek relatable subjects that people can watch together. Everything was so different before the pandemic; the films I did had tremendous box office uproar. But things changed post-pandemic."
