Bhumi Pednekar Redefines Kanjeevaram with Corset Gown

Bhumi Pednekar rarely plays by the rules when it comes to choosing an iconic statement fit-check for an award night. The diva is known for her unconventional and modest fashion selections, where she is most of the time seen playing around with classic and traditional heritage-friendly silhouettes that are defined to play a certain role in the fashion world.

Defying the rules, she always creates her own weaves and exudes a vision that looks above and beyond. Well, this time was no different, as Bhumi tried something visionary with the classic Kanjeevaram drape, which was not the usual saree. She went with a structured, glamorous golden corset gown, bound to the magical Kanjeevaram silhouette, which looked like it was challenging the traditional fashion norms while celebrating the richness of Indian textiles.

For an award night, Bhumi slayed in a handwoven silver Kanjeevaram saree by Ekaya, priced at Rs 60,375. Drenched in luminous gold and silver tones, it exuded a molten-metal-like effect under the event lights and ditched the usual conventional drape but brought an aura with the floor-grazing column detailing that accentuated her lean figure. But what stole the show was the handwoven silk cutwork corset from the same label, layered over a customized golden corset blouse. The corset came with intricate cutwork details, delicate lace-like patterns, and a sweetheart neckline with strategic boning, which created a defined waistline and elegant bustline finish. The blend of traditional Kanjeevaram with modern corsetry was something unexpected and kind of over-the-top though totally worth it.

But Bhumi didn’t just stop there. She further wore a voluminous gold satin cape stole that flowed effortlessly with every movement and added a theatrical flair. She complemented the ensemble with statement jewellery from Amaris and wore their standout piece, i.e., the Tourmaline Halo Choker valued at Rs 9,22,000. Decked up with diamonds, delicate pearl drops, and goldwork, she completed the look with matching earrings and multiple ornate gold rings that sparkled on her hands like glitter. Lastly, for her hair and makeup, she went all out with a glowing and dewy base, soft smoky eyes, nude-pink lips, and a sleek, polished bun, which gave a neat peek of her choker and corset’s neckline.

This pick from her wardrobe screamed regality and rebellion. The ensemble showcased how classic weaves are to be reimagined for the modish wardrobe, proving that tradition and trend can surely coexist and create something iconic on the runway.
