Veteran actor Boman Irani has shared his experience of being part of the upcoming sports drama Peddi and had nothing but praise for his co-star Ram Charan. During a recent interaction, the actor reflected on the atmosphere during filming and highlighted the qualities that make Ram Charan admired by those around him. Although the two actors did not have many scenes together, Boman said Ram Charan's presence on set left a lasting impression on everyone involved in the production. He described the experience as memorable and spoke about the positive energy the star brought to the workplace.
Speaking about his co-star, Boman told India Today, “It’s a humbling experience. You just feel nice, even though we didn’t have scenes together. You just feel the aura around, that people working in that space should feel proud. Outcomes, we don’t know. What we put in, we know heart, soul, talent, and love. Nothing else.”
Why Ram Charan's personality stood out
Boman also spoke about the importance of humility in the film industry. According to him, actors who achieve great success often appear larger than life from a distance. However, true stars are those who make others feel comfortable rather than intimidated. The actor noted that Ram Charan possesses exactly that quality. He believes such behaviour creates a healthy working environment, especially for younger performers who may feel pressure while sharing screen space with a major star. Explaining his thoughts, Boman said, “When you look at someone who’s up there on posters, they become these larger-than-life characters. Mega Power Star, right? But when you meet them in person, you realise they’re all the same. And he makes it like that.”
Peddi's Story is more than what the trailer shows
While discussing the film itself, Boman revealed that audiences have only witnessed a small glimpse of the world of Peddi through its promotional material. He stressed that the movie is far larger in scale and ambition than what has been shown so far. The 3 Idiots actor explained that the narrative unfolds through parallel journeys. One explores events linked to Peddi's past, while the other follows his own character's search for answers. At the centre of the story lies the mystery behind Peddi's legendary status among his people. Boman said, “There’s so much more than the trailer, believe me, in this film. Because it’s a huge film when you think about it.”
A journey to discover the legend called Peddi
According to Boman, his character acts as the audience's guide into the film's world. The journey begins when a man named Kurumaya leads him through rivers, valleys, mountains and dense forests in search of Peddi. As the story progresses, curiosity about the central character continues to grow. Boman revealed that discovering why Peddi commands such respect forms the emotional heart of the narrative. Sharing details about the plot, he said, “I’m going on a hunt for this character called Peddi, who has got legendary status nowhere else in the country except among his own people. Why is he such a legend? That’s the story.”
Boman calls 'Peddi' one of his most meaningful films
The actor also praised director Buchi Babu Sana and cinematographer R. Rathnavelu for creating a visually rich cinematic experience. He credited the duo for building an expansive world that goes beyond conventional sports dramas. Boman further described Peddi as one of the most meaningful projects of his career. He noted that the film shines a spotlight on lesser-known communities from India's interiors while delivering an emotional and patriotic story. Speaking passionately about the film, he said, “What this movie is all about is saying something very honest, sincere, and good. It’s a sports film. It’s one of the most patriotic films I’ve worked on. It’s telling you that in the interiors, there are people and there are tribes you may never have heard of, that need to be pulled out of this country and presented to the world.” Reflecting on the scale of the project, Boman concluded, “It actually becomes a big film. When I heard it, I didn’t think it was such a big film.”
Peddi, starring Ram Charan in the lead role, is scheduled to release in theatres on June 4.
