A photographer in Karnataka has built a house shaped like a vintage camera, complete with a giant lens and viewfinder. The unique structure has gone viral on social media, drawing attention from around the world.
Unique Architecture Inspired by Photography
The house, located in the town of Chikkamagaluru, was designed and built by photographer and architect Ravi Varma. The structure resembles a classic twin-lens reflex camera, with the main living area housed in the camera body and the viewfinder serving as a small observatory.
Speaking to India TV, Varma said: "I wanted to create a space that reflects my passion for photography. Every detail, from the giant lens to the shutter-shaped windows, is a tribute to the art of capturing light."
Viral Video Captures Attention
A video of the house, posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by user @KarnatakaStories, has garnered over 2 million views in just three days. The clip shows the exterior of the house, complete with a giant lens protruding from the front and a viewfinder on top.
Many users have praised the creativity and craftsmanship, with one commenter calling it "a dream home for any photographer." Another wrote: "This is the most unique house I have ever seen. Kudos to the architect for thinking outside the box."
Inside the Camera House
The interior of the house is equally thoughtful. The living room is designed to resemble a camera's interior, with walls painted in dark tones and soft lighting to mimic the effect of a camera obscura. The bedroom is located in what would be the film compartment, complete with a skylight that allows natural light to filter in.
Varma added: "I spent two years planning and building this house. It was a labor of love, and I am thrilled that people are appreciating it."

The house has already become a local landmark, with tourists and photography enthusiasts making pilgrimages to see it. Local tourism officials expect a boost in visitors to the area, which is already known for its coffee plantations and scenic hills.
