Bollywood Actress Takes Legal Action After Years of Alleged Abuse
Bollywood actress Celina Jaitly has initiated legal proceedings against her Austrian husband Peter Haag, filing a formal domestic violence complaint in the judicial magistrate court located in Andheri. The actress has made serious allegations spanning emotional, physical, sexual, and verbal abuse throughout their marriage.
Legal Proceedings and Hearing Date Set
Judicial Magistrate SC Tadye has officially acknowledged the complaint and issued a notice to Peter Haag, requiring his appearance for a hearing scheduled for December 12. The legal machinery has been set in motion to address the grave allegations put forth by the actress.
Celina Jaitly's legal representative, Sandeep Kapur, provided insight into the situation, stating that "Celina tried every possible way to make her marriage work" but eventually reached a breaking point where continuing became impossible. The legal documents reportedly contain numerous instances of alleged physical and verbal abuse that occurred over several years.
International Complications and Language Barriers
The couple, who have been married for 15 years, primarily resided in Austria, where they are raising their three sons. According to Kapur, Celina had previously attempted to seek assistance from women's support services in Austria but faced significant challenges due to language barriers.
"Due to the language barrier, she was in a very difficult position while communicating with the agencies there," Kapur explained, highlighting the additional hardship the actress faced while trying to seek help in a foreign country where she doesn't speak German.
In a parallel legal development, Peter Haag had previously filed for divorce in an Austrian court during August this year, indicating that marital troubles had been escalating for some time.
Compensation and Maintenance Demands
As part of her legal recourse, Celina Jaitly has sought substantial financial compensation from the court. Her petition includes a demand for Rs 50 crore in compensation along with Rs 10 lakh per month as maintenance. Additionally, she has requested certain restraints be placed on her husband through the legal proceedings.
The case brings to light the challenges faced by individuals in international marriages when dealing with domestic issues across different legal systems and cultural environments. The upcoming December hearing is expected to provide more clarity on how the Indian judicial system will handle this high-profile international domestic violence case.
