Tragic Suicide of Businessman Linked to Indian Cricketer
In a heartbreaking incident that has shocked the community, Jeet Pabari, a 30-year-old businessman and the brother-in-law of renowned Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara, allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Rajkot on Wednesday. The tragic event occurred near Kalavad Road, casting a pall of gloom over the area.
Discovery and Immediate Aftermath
The grim discovery was made around 11 am on Wednesday morning when Pabari's wife went to the first floor of their bungalow named 'Krishna Sindhu'. She found her husband hanging from an iron hook on the window, using a nylon rope. The family immediately rushed him to Wockhardt Hospital, where emergency department doctors declared him dead upon admission.
According to police officials from Malaviya Nagar police station, Pabari had been alone in his room while his wife and mother were engaged in routine household chores downstairs. The timing of this tragedy holds a disturbing coincidence - it marks exactly one year since a rape complaint was filed against Pabari by his former fiancée on November 26, 2024.
Ongoing Investigation and Background
Police Inspector JR Desai confirmed that preliminary investigations revealed Pabari had been suffering from depression for the past two months and was undergoing treatment and medication. "According to the family members, Pabari had been suffering from depression for the past two months and he was undergoing treatment and medication. He has two sisters," Desai told reporters.
The investigation has hit some obstacles as authorities have not found any suicide note in the room, and Pabari's mobile phone remains missing. "We have not come across any suicide note inside the room. Further, his mobile phone has also not been traced yet," stated Inspector Desai.
Pabari, who ran an import-export business, had been married for nearly a year. The police have registered a case of accidental death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS) and are proceeding with their investigation.
Legal Context and Future Steps
The deceased had previously been involved in legal troubles when a rape case was filed against him at the same Malaviya Nagar police station exactly one year prior. Pabari had obtained anticipatory bail from the Gujarat High Court in that matter. Police had completed their evidence collection and filed a chargesheet in court, with the case currently pending before judicial authorities.
Moving forward, investigators plan to record statements from family members and obtain call data records associated with Pabari's mobile number for detailed scrutiny. The community remains in shock as they process this tragic loss of a young businessman whose life ended so abruptly.
