Mumbai: City MLA Sanjay Upadhyay has written to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, demanding that the reconstruction process of Borivli railway station be initiated promptly. He also called for an increase in the number of AC local trains operating between Borivli and Churchgate, and urged the introduction of new local trains to replace the MEMU services currently running between Dahanu Road, Virar, and Borivli.
Concerns Over MEMU Trains
In his letter, Upadhyay highlighted significant issues with the MEMU trains. “There is a great deal of uncleanliness in the MEMU trains, and as they have old rakes, the lighting is poor and there is insufficient ventilation. If trains are introduced on the lines of new locals, suburban passengers will get more facilities,” he stated. He emphasized that introducing trains with both AC and non-AC coaches would greatly benefit daily commuters.
Demands for Better Services
The MLA’s demands come amid growing commuter frustrations over inadequate infrastructure and aging rolling stock. He urged the railway ministry to prioritize the station reconstruction to improve passenger experience and safety. Additionally, he stressed the need for more AC locals to meet the rising demand for comfortable travel options on the busy Borivli-Churchgate corridor.
