Sir David Beckham experienced one of the biggest moments of his life on Friday as he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles. The former England and Manchester United football star was joined by his wife, Victoria Beckham, children Romeo Beckham, Cruz Beckham, and Harper Beckham, along with close friends Tom Cruise, Eva Longoria, and James Corden.
Heartfelt Celebration
The celebration quickly caught attention when David Beckham and Victoria Beckham shared a heartfelt kiss while standing behind his newly unveiled star. The couple smiled and embraced as people gathered to watch the ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard.
Historic Honor
David Beckham became the 2,849th person to receive a star on the famous walkway. He was honored in the sports entertainment category at a time when the United States is preparing to host FIFA World Cup matches. Notably, Brooklyn Beckham was not present at the event despite living only a short distance away with his wife Nicola Peltz.
Tom Cruise Leads Tribute
Tom Cruise delivered the induction speech and praised his longtime friend during the ceremony. David Beckham and Tom Cruise have known each other since 2007, when Beckham moved to the United States to play for LA Galaxy.
According to a source quoted by the Daily Mail, Tom Cruise was the perfect person to introduce Beckham because their friendship has grown strongly over the years. The source said, “Never back then did he think he and Tom would become friends, but they have, and there was only one person who could have done the induction speech for David.”
Victoria Beckham Celebrates Husband's Achievement
Victoria Beckham also spoke during the event and celebrated her husband’s latest achievement. David Beckham later admitted he never expected to receive a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.
Speaking to Variety, he said, “All I wanted to be was a successful soccer player for Manchester United and England. That’s all I cared about.” He added, “So now, having a star, becoming a ‘Sir,’ all these things that have come with the career that I’ve had, I feel very lucky.”
The honor also recognizes the success of Studio 99, Beckham’s production company behind the popular Netflix documentary about David Beckham and Victoria Beckham. Hollywood Chamber of Commerce producer Ana Martinez said Beckham’s influence on sports, entertainment, and culture made the recognition especially meaningful.
