Doraha Police Arrest Serial Rapist for Murder of Boy

Doraha police claim to have solved a blind murder case involving a 14-year-old specially-abled boy with the arrest of a 35-year-old serial rapist, Mani Kumar, a resident of Doraha village. The accused had been released from jail last year after serving five years for sexually abusing a woman and attempting to murder her.

Case Details

The boy, who lived with his mother in the forest area of Katana Sahib in Katana, went missing on May 6. His disappearance was reported by locals, prompting police to register a case under Section 103 of the BNS. Following the trail of the victim's belongings, police, with the help of villagers, recovered the unclothed body of the boy from a village pond and his bloodstained clothes nearby. Preliminary information suggested foul play.

Investigation Breakthrough

SHO Doraha Akash Dutt stated that the case was particularly challenging due to the absence of CCTV footage or digital evidence at the crime scene. The breakthrough came when police found a video clip showing a man on the phone near the area around the time of the crime. Based on this clue, they zeroed in on Mani Kumar, who had been working in a factory in Bhawanigarh, Sangrur, Patiala, after committing the heinous crime.

SP(D) Pawanjit Singh emphasized the sensitivity of the case involving a minor. Despite the lack of digital evidence, police teams relied on extensive groundwork and intelligence to identify and arrest the accused. Singh described Mani Kumar as a serial rapist with a distorted psychology, who had been in jail for five years for sexually abusing a woman and attempting to murder her. He had left home much earlier and his whereabouts were unknown until his release last year. Singh added, "He is a person with distorted psychology who exhibited his abnormal behaviour on a person of any age."
