Edin Rose on Bigg Boss Fame, South Cinema, and Hyderabad

From reality television fame on Bigg Boss 18 to playing SJ Suryah's girlfriend and a robot in the recent Tamil sci-fi romantic comedy film Love Insurance Kompany (LIK), Edin Rose is steadily finding her footing in South cinema.

After making her Telugu debut in Ravi Teja's Ravanasura (2023), featuring in the film's song Dikka Dishum, the Dubai-born actor, who moved to India in 2020, will next be seen in an upcoming Kollywood project. She speaks to Hyderabad Times about her journey so far.

'Hyderabad will always be special to me'

Her face lights up at the mention of Hyderabad. "Back when I was a newcomer, people in the industry here were so kind to me. My very first break came from Tollywood with Ravanasura," she says, adding, "After the city I was born and raised in, Hyderabad is my favorite place because it's where my journey began. It's a lucky charm for me."

'I feel the Telugu film industry is at its peak right now'

Reflecting on her experience in Telugu cinema, Edin says the industry's growth and work culture have left a lasting impression. "As both an outsider and now someone within it, I feel the Telugu film industry is at its peak. Among all the South industries, Tollywood is truly leading the way," she says. "It's inspiring to watch creative minds bring their vision to life with such precision. Even before I began my career, Telugu films were among my favourites. Ravanasura opened many doors for me, leading to Love Insurance Kompany and several other projects. I'm especially excited about my third Telugu film — I can't reveal much yet, but it's a strong, martial arts-based role," she adds.

'Martial arts bring me a sense of peace'

Beyond the camera, Edin's life is defined by a long-standing passion for combat sports. "I've been drawn to martial arts since I was 11 or 12, back when I first told my parents I wanted to box," she shares. Today, her training has expanded far beyond the ring. "I currently practice boxing and samurai sword fighting, and I'm planning to start MMA and katana training soon. For me, martial arts isn't just about the physical challenge; it is a form of peace," she says.

What I love about Ravi Teja sir is his energy. I worked with him on my debut and reunited with him earlier this year, and I still don't understand how he has so much of it. The moment the director calls 'action' and we're in the same frame, he brings maximum energy. It's truly inspiring.

Edin Rose continues to rise in the South Indian film industry, with upcoming projects that promise to showcase her versatility and dedication.
