A 64-year-old man was arrested by the Aarey Colony Police in Mumbai for allegedly molesting an 8-year-old girl who lived next door. The accused has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
Incident Details
According to police reports, the incident occurred earlier this week when the victim left her home around 10 am to play outside. When she did not return, her family began searching for her. The door to the accused's house was found shut. When the girl's mother knocked, the accused claimed he had sent the girl to a grocery store to run an errand. However, inquiries at the store revealed that the girl had not been there.
The family returned to the accused's residence, but he insisted the girl was running an errand. When the family threatened to call the police, the accused admitted that the girl was hiding inside his home.
Victim's Account
Upon being found, the girl stated that the accused had offered her money and invited her inside. Once she entered, he shut the door and molested her repeatedly. The girl's mother revealed that she had previously warned the accused against giving her daughter money for snacks.
The accused was taken into custody and is being held for further investigation. The police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the POCSO Act.
