Helen Mirren has spoken out about the possibility of working with Tom Hardy again, following reports that the actor was fired from their series MobLand after allegedly keeping co-stars including Mirren and Pierce Brosnan waiting on set and clashing with producers. Despite the reported tensions, Mirren made her feelings about Hardy abundantly clear in a new interview, leaving no room for ambiguity.
Helen Mirren on Tom Hardy and His Process
"Absolutely. In a f-cking heartbeat," she told Variety when asked if she would work with Hardy again. Mirren was effusive in her praise for her former co-star, describing him as someone with a unique approach to his craft that she has come to understand and respect. "I love Tom, I think he's the most amazing actor," she said. "Different actors have different processes. I've learnt over the years that some people get to things faster. As long as what's on the screen is fantastic, I'm totally chilled with however someone gets there."
She also made clear that her feelings toward Hardy go beyond professional admiration. "Tom is a very special person. I think he's absolutely remarkable. My support of him is genuine and heartfelt," she added.
Helen Mirren on the Creative Team Behind 'MobLand'
Mirren also addressed the broader tensions that have been reported around the show's production, acknowledging that creative environments can be challenging without placing blame on any individual. "When you have powerful artistic people working together, the creative process is challenging," she said. "People will get their knickers in a twist as we say. We will go forward, absolutely, and it will be even better."
Where Things Stand With 'MobLand'
Hardy was reportedly fired from MobLand over alleged on-set behaviour, though it has also been reported that the door remains open for a potential third season appearance. Season two of MobLand has completed filming, though a release date has not yet been confirmed.
With Mirren firmly in Hardy's corner and the creative team said to be pressing forward, the show's next chapter looks set to be one of the most anticipated of the year.
