Udupi: A series of high-profile visits has brought the Kollur Sri Mookambika Temple in Kundapur taluk into sharp focus. BJP Karnataka president BY Vijayendra, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, and businessman Anant Ambani have all offered prayers at the shrine in recent days, underscoring its enduring appeal across regions and spheres of influence.
Vijayendra's Visit Marks Modi's 12-Year Milestone
Vijayendra visited the temple on Monday and performed special pujas to commemorate the 12th anniversary of Narendra Modi's tenure as Prime Minister of India. This visit follows closely on the heels of those by Vijay and Ambani, highlighting the temple's continued draw for VVIPs and VIPs.
A Shrine with Ancient Roots
Founded by Sri Adi Shankaracharya over 1,200 years ago, the temple has enjoyed the patronage of several local dynasties, including the Kelady rulers. It remains a prominent destination for devotees and public figures from across the country.
Daily Footfall and Offerings
Temple committee president Babu Shetty told TOI that devotees from Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and other states visit to offer prayers and perform pujas, including Chandika Yaga. The temple sees an average of 6,000 to 7,000 devotees daily, with footfall rising to around 12,000 during peak season. Anna prasada (free meals) is provided to all devotees every day, Shetty added.
Notable Visitors Over the Years
The shrine has attracted a host of distinguished personalities, including former President Pranab Mukherjee; Tamil Nadu chief ministers MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa; former Chief Justice of India MN Venkatachalaiah; cricketers Venkatesh Prasad, Anil Kumble, WV Raman, and GR Vishwanath; music director Ilaiyaraaja; singer KJ Yesudas; and actor Rajinikanth. Ministers from several South Indian states, especially Kerala, have also made pilgrimages to the temple.

In addition to his visit to Kollur Temple, Anant Ambani also offered prayers at Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt on Sunday.
