A resident of Sundawas village in the Hisar district has been arrested for allegedly threatening a local YouTuber and using derogatory remarks against him during a phone call. The accused, identified as Sunil Kumar, was taken into custody following a complaint lodged by YouTuber Vipin Khurana.
Details of the Incident
According to the complaint, Khurana received a phone call on June 2 from a mobile number. During the call, the caller allegedly used abusive language, referred to him as a "refugee," and attempted to pressure him to stop broadcasting certain news reports. The caller also issued threats of serious consequences and harm to life and property.
Police Action
Police confirmed that the mobile phone allegedly used in the incident has been recovered from the accused. Based on the complaint, the HTM police station registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- Section 196(2) – promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony.
- Section 296 – obscene acts and songs.
- Section 351(3) – criminal intimidation.
- Section 356(2) – defamation.
An investigation has been initiated.
Complainant's Statement
The complainant stated that the remarks were not only offensive but also amounted to an attack on his identity, dignity, and social standing. He alleged that the caller made objectionable remarks about former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar during the conversation.
Call for Stronger Safeguards
Khurana has also sought stronger legal safeguards against derogatory remarks targeting specific communities and called for greater public awareness to prevent such incidents in the future.
