Huma Qureshi Demands Equal Punishment for Online Harassment
Huma Qureshi: Same Punishment for Online & Street Harassment

In today's digital era, social media platforms have become breeding grounds for online predators who target women through direct messages and comments. Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi has now taken a strong stand against this growing menace, demanding equal legal consequences for digital harassment and physical street harassment.

Personal Experiences with Digital Abuse

During a recent interview with The Male Feminist, Huma Qureshi opened up about her own disturbing encounters with online harassment. The acclaimed actress revealed receiving offensive messages and inappropriate comments that crossed all boundaries of decency.

She recalled specific instances where anonymous users demanded she post pictures in objectionable attire, leaving her disgusted and concerned about the normalization of such behavior. "I'm like - kya kar rahe ho boss? What are you doing? It's disgusting. It's sad," the actress expressed with visible frustration.

Equal Punishment for Digital and Physical Harassment

Huma Qureshi presented a compelling argument for treating online abuse with the same seriousness as physical harassment. "In my opinion, the punishment for harassing a woman on the street and harassing her online should be the same. There is no difference," she asserted during the conversation.

The Maharani actress elaborated that the emotional impact and violation of dignity remains equally damaging regardless of the platform. She emphasized that sending dirty pictures, writing vulgar comments, or sliding into DMs with inappropriate intentions should carry legal consequences matching those for public misconduct.

Call for Societal Change

Beyond legal reforms, Huma Qureshi made an earnest appeal to society to stop policing women's choices. She urged people to refrain from commenting on aspects like clothing, makeup preferences, lifestyle decisions, working hours, or physical appearance.

The actress stressed that such unwarranted scrutiny creates an environment where harassment thrives. Her message highlighted the need for fundamental attitude shifts in how society perceives and treats women in both digital and physical spaces.

Currently enjoying success in the OTT space with recent appearances in Maharani 4 and Delhi Crime Season 3, Huma continues to use her platform to advocate for meaningful social change and women's safety across all domains.
