Hyderabad Mother, Partner Held for Girl's Murder

Hyderabad: A six-year-old girl, initially reported missing, was allegedly murdered by her mother Rekha and her partner Saikumar in Old Alwal. Police stated that the child was perceived as an obstacle to their relationship. The child's body was discovered in an overhead water tank on the terrace of her residence on May 16.

Background of the Case

According to police, Rekha had married a distant relative, Raju, in 2020. However, the couple later separated due to marital disputes. Subsequently, Rekha developed a relationship with 20-year-old neighbor Saikumar. The duo intended to marry, but Saikumar's family opposed the relationship because Rekha was already married and had a child.

Planning the Murder

Investigators revealed that Rekha and Saikumar were in frequent contact and allegedly met a week before the incident, where they discussed plans to eliminate the child. "Initially, they allegedly planned to push the child into Alwal Lake, but later dropped the idea and chose the overhead tank," police said.

The Incident

On May 16, when Rekha's younger brother was away, she allegedly took the child to the terrace on the pretext of playing and drowned her in the tank. She later reported the girl missing. However, the attempt to pass it off as a missing case failed after suspicion arose during the probe.

Confession and Arrest

Police said Rekha later confessed to the crime and alleged that she acted under pressure from Saikumar. Both individuals have been arrested and are currently in custody.

This tragic incident highlights the extreme measures some individuals may take when personal relationships are perceived to be threatened. The community remains in shock over the loss of the young life.
