Former MP-led delegation meets Punjab Governor over paper mill pollution

A delegation of the Human Rights Sangharsh Committee, Saila Khurd, led by former MP Avinash Rai Khanna, met Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on June 28, 2026, to raise serious concerns over alleged pollution caused by a paper mill in Saila Khurd. The delegation highlighted that residents have been suffering for several years due to polluted water and a foul smell emanating from the mill.

Health and Environmental Impact

Khanna informed the Governor that untreated waste water from the mill is spreading into nearby areas, adversely affecting the health of local residents, livestock, and the environment. The foul odour has made daily life difficult for the community. The delegation claimed that the mill is not properly treating its waste, and repeated complaints to concerned departments have not led to effective action.

Demand for Immediate Action

The delegation urged the Governor to intervene and order appropriate action against the mill management to ensure relief for the affected residents. Those present included Sanjeev Gupta Bobby, Rinku Chandpuri, Sarpanch Goldy Singh, Mohit Gupta, Rajesh Kumar, and Karanvir Singh. The Governor assured the delegation that their concerns would be examined.
