Imtiaz Ali has clarified why Diljit Dosanjh has been absent from the primary promotional activities of 'Main Vaapas Aaunga,' which hit theaters worldwide on Friday. The film features Diljit, Sharvari, and Vedang Raina in leading roles, yet Imtiaz and Vedang have undertaken the majority of the promotional events thus far. The director stated that Diljit is preoccupied with international concerts, while Sharvari is also filming abroad, and the team anticipated this scenario when planning the film.
Imtiaz Ali Explains Diljit Dosanjh's Absence
According to Hindustan Times, Imtiaz addressed the matter during an interview with India Today. He was questioned about actors avoiding media interviews and turning to social media for film promotion, referencing stars like Shah Rukh Khan who have skipped traditional media interactions for recent projects.
Imtiaz remarked, 'I cannot speak for the entire film industry, but in our case, Diljit is unavailable because he is performing shows overseas, and Sharvari is absent as she is shooting abroad.' He added, 'When we secured a release date, we knew this would happen. In fact, when we were scheduling Diljit's dates to shoot this film, we were aware that he would be performing concerts around the release. However, at that time, the casting of the film took precedence over the actor's ability to promote it.'
The filmmaker emphasized that the team did not deliberately avoid promotions. 'We do not have a strategy of avoiding promotions or interactions, and I cannot determine which approach is superior. We engage in promotions out of habit. We have created a film and want it to reach audiences widely.'
Diljit Dosanjh Missed Trailer Launch Too
Imtiaz also responded to whether actors now sidestep media interactions to evade controversies. He said, 'No, I do not think so. It might simply depend on whether it is effective. If someone opts out of promotions, they likely believe it is unnecessary and will not benefit the film's prospects.'
Diljit had previously missed the trailer launch of 'Main Vaapas Aaunga.' In a video message, he stated, 'Hello folks, this is Diljit Dosanjh. Love and greetings to all. You are going to watch the trailer of Main Vaapas Aaunga, so enjoy it. I am in Texas, so I could not attend. Tonight's show in Texas is sold out.' He added, 'I am taking care of some matters here; you do the same. Jaldi Main Bhi Vaapas Aaunga (I will also return soon). Enjoy the trailer. If you like it, share it. If not, still share it! After all, it is Imtiaz Ali's film.'
'Main Vaapas Aaunga' marks Diljit and Imtiaz's second collaboration following 'Amar Singh Chamkila.' The new film is set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition and delves into themes of displacement, identity, memory, and belonging.
