Kiara Brokenbrough's family is enduring an unimaginably difficult time. The 32-year-old influencer, who gained viral fame in 2022 for her budget-friendly $500 wedding on social media, passed away on March 30 while giving birth to her first child with husband Joel Brokenbrough.
The news was confirmed by her obituary. On April 21, Joel's mother, Shaneka Greene, created a GoFundMe page, where she shared the unfortunate news. She wrote, 'Joel and his wife, Kiara Brokenbrough, were married four years ago and were expecting their first child in June. They were in the process of moving from West Virginia back to California to make a new home for their growing family.'
Further detailing the unexpected tragedy that left them in profound grief and sorrow, the page continued, 'Kiara went to her Heavenly home while Baby Jonah entered his earthly home.' Baby Jonah is currently in the NICU. The family updated that he 'has begun his long journey to grow stronger and healthier each day. Jonah is a cutie and a fighter, and by God's grace and power, we know he will astound the doctors with his daily progress.'
Joel Brokenbrough, shattered by the loss, took time to gather the strength to write a tribute for his late wife. Expressing his sorrow on April 13 through a social media post, Joel shared, 'I never imagined I would be writing this, especially so soon.' He continued, 'It has taken me time to begin processing what has happened and to make sense of it all. My beautiful, God-fearing, worshipping wife has gone home to be in the presence of the Lord.'
'Through everything that has happened and continues to unfold, I am leaning on the strength of the Lord,' he added. 'Despite the pain I carry as her husband, my faith remains firm and unwavering,' expressed the grieving husband.
Kiara and Joel's 2022 wedding went viral on TikTok. As mentioned, they managed to bring down the cost of their celebration to just $500. One major step was Kiara buying her wedding dress for only $47. Another was asking wedding guests to purchase their own refreshments at the reception.
Speaking about the wedding, Kiara told Good Morning America, 'You have a wedding, with witnesses there to witness you, vowing to your spouse, vowing to God that you guys are going to stay together for life. And then you celebrate with food, drinks, and dance. And that's exactly what we did.'
