Jackky Bhagnani on Body Image Struggles and Bullying

Actor-producer Jackky Bhagnani recently opened up about his long struggle with body image issues and the emotional scars left by years of bullying. Before turning to production full-time, Jackky began his career as an actor, appearing in films like 'F.A.L.T.U' and 'Youngistan'. In a recent interview, he candidly discussed being overweight during his childhood and the constant ridicule he faced.

Painful Childhood Memories

Jackky appeared alongside his wife, actor Rakul Preet Singh, on Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi's chat show 'Double Date', where he recalled a painful memory. He revealed that he weighed nearly 150 kilograms at one point and was often subjected to insensitive comments. One particular incident has stayed with him over the years. He said, “I still remember there was a film made on Akshay Sir, 'Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi'. At that time, there was chatter among producers about calling WWF wrestler Yokozuna to India for Bollywood. It was a huge buzz.”

During a discussion about this, a family acquaintance made a hurtful remark directed at Jackky: “Why do you need to call Yokozuna from outside? You already have one at home.” Jackky was a teenager then, and the comment left a lasting impact. He admitted, “As a child, you laugh it off in front of people, but those things stay with you.”

Broader Issue of Body Shaming

Speaking about body shaming, Jackky noted that many people fail to realize how deeply such comments can affect someone's self-esteem. He said, “When you are growing up, you are also part of all jokes. If you are overweight or dark-skinned in this country, people don't think twice before bullying you. For example, if someone is laughing there, you feel, 'kahin ye mujhpe toh nahi hans raha,' but in reality, that person is not even aware of me.”

A Defining Moment

Jackky also recalled a defining moment when he first told his father, producer Vashu Bhagnani, about his desire to become an actor. His father's response was difficult to hear but ultimately became a source of motivation. Jackky said, “I told my father one day that I wanted to become an actor. He looked at me honestly and said, 'I cannot launch you in this state.'”

While the remark initially hurt him, Jackky now understands the intention behind it. He added, “At that moment it hurt, but today I understand that he was trying to push me towards becoming healthier and more disciplined.”

Jackky's journey reflects the emotional toll of body shaming and the importance of resilience. His story serves as a reminder that words can have a profound impact, and that self-improvement often begins with confronting painful truths.
