Jeremy Allen White backs UK social media age cap

Hollywood actor Jeremy Allen White is praising the U.K. government for implementing an age limit on social media usage. The entertainment industry is currently grappling with a social reckoning. Following increased scrutiny over the impact of social media on young users, the U.K. has announced plans to ban children under 16 from using platforms such as TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube, as reported by Variety.

This news arrives just days after the release of the first trailer for Aaron Sorkin's film 'The Social Reckoning'. According to the outlet, the movie targets Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, focusing on allegations that the company ignored internal warnings about the platform's effects on young users and their mental health.

Jeremy Allen White, star of the hit Hulu series 'The Bear', spent five seasons portraying the intense anxieties of running a kitchen. With the show ending this summer, his next project, 'The Social Reckoning', delves into the core of the issue. At the final season's premiere in lower Manhattan, the actor commended the decision as a "great" step forward.

White stated, "It's remarkable how addictive this stuff is. I think there needs to be a correction. It's never going to go away, but I do think there needs to be boundaries or guidelines at a certain point. And I hope there is some kind of slide back into more of an analog approach in life. Because this is all moving very fast and it's a little scary."

Jeremy, a father of two, revealed that his children, aged 7 and 5, do not own personal phones or iPads, though they occasionally use his or their mother's devices. He previously mentioned that he wants to "keep them away from it as long as (he) can" when it comes to social media.

'The Bear' continues to resonate due to its visceral depiction of anxiety, capturing the emotion with intensity and realism.
