Journalist assaulted by two men in Tiruvarur over dispute

A journalist working for a regional news channel was assaulted by two individuals in Tiruvarur district on Monday night, reportedly over a personal dispute. The incident occurred around 11:30 PM when the accused arrived at the journalist's residence in Muthupet and called him outside.

Details of the Incident

The victim, identified as B Haja Maideen, 37, was allegedly involved in a relationship with a woman known to a person named Abbas. The accused, A Abdul Basith and Sabeer Ahamed, were acquaintances of Abbas. According to a statement from Tiruvarur police issued on the directions of Superintendent of Police Karun Garad, the duo came to Maideen's house and a heated argument ensued. During the confrontation, one of the attackers struck Maideen with a bottle, causing injuries.

Police Action and Arrest

Upon receiving information, Muthupettai police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. They arrested Basith, 20, who was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the second accused, Sabeer Ahamed.

Victim's Condition

The injured journalist is currently receiving treatment at the Thanjavur Government Medical College Hospital. His condition is reported to be stable.
