Kangana Ranaut's upcoming film 'Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata' is set to bring to the big screen the remarkable story of Anjali Kulthe, a nurse at Mumbai's Cama Hospital who played a pivotal role in saving 20 pregnant women during the horrific 26/11 terror attacks. The film sheds light on a lesser-known yet inspiring chapter from the night of November 26, 2008, when terrorists stormed the hospital after launching attacks on key locations in Mumbai, including the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST) railway station and the iconic Taj Hotel.
Anjali Kulthe's Heroic Act During the 26/11 Attacks
According to a report by India Today, Kulthe was on duty at Cama Hospital when news broke that the terrorists, who had already attacked CST, were heading towards the hospital. What began as an ordinary night shift quickly transformed into a desperate fight to safeguard the lives of patients within the building. Kulthe heard gunshots and witnessed the terrorists entering the hospital premises after fatally shooting security personnel. As panic engulfed the area, she acted swiftly and decisively.
She gathered 20 pregnant women from the ward and moved them into a small pantry, a confined space that offered some semblance of safety. The lights were switched off, mobile phones were silenced, and the women remained in complete darkness, staying quiet as the attack raged on outside. Kulthe refused to abandon her patients; she stayed with them throughout the ordeal, doing her utmost to keep them calm while danger lurked nearby.
How a High-Risk Patient Delivered During the Siege
The crisis deepened when one high-risk patient, who had hypertension, went into labor in the midst of the siege. Doctors were unable to safely reach the ward due to the continuous gunfire inside the hospital. Undeterred, Kulthe took charge of the situation. She carefully escorted the woman to the labor room, moving cautiously up the stairs and staying close to the wall to avoid detection. By the following morning, the woman had safely delivered a baby girl. Kulthe later revealed that the child was named 'Goli' as a poignant reminder of the terrifying night that surrounded her birth.
