Kit Harington has shared his unusual experience of filming intimate scenes with his 'Game of Thrones' co-star Sophie Turner, who played his sister in the series. The two actors became household names for portraying Stark siblings in the hit HBO fantasy drama. Years later, they reunited for writer-director Natasha Kermani's gothic horror film 'The Dreadful', where they coincidentally played lovers.
Unexpected Intimacy
While both were excited about the script, they were caught off guard by the multiple kissing and intimate scenes that neither anticipated. Speaking during a conversation with former 'Game of Thrones' co-star Peter Dinklage on Variety's Actors on Actors, Harington praised Turner's growth as an actor but admitted that filming the intimate scenes was 'gross'.
"Obviously I've known her since being a child," Harington said. "She feels like my younger sister. It was gross but it was fine..."
Kit went on to praise Turner's performance, saying, "She's an amazing actor. I know we all know that, but she was a child when she got cast (in GOT) but she is phenomenal."
Dinklage's Praise
Dinklage echoed the sentiment, recalling their scenes together playing husband and wife on the drama series. "We had so much stuff together, the Tyrion and Sansa stuff. I would look around and think this is the greatest actress on this f****** show. Because what she was giving me was so still. She was always so prepared and so fun to play across."
Turner's Reaction
Kit was not the only one to find the intimate scenes 'vile'. Turner previously revealed during an appearance on 'Late Night with Seth Meyers', "I'm producing it, so the director was asking me, 'Who do you think?' And immediately, the first person I thought of was Kit."
"And so, I sent the script to Kit, and he kind of sent me a message back going like, 'Yeah, I'd love to, but this is going to be really f***ing weird, Soph.' And I was like, what is he talking about? Then I was reading it, and I'm like, 'Kiss, kiss, sex, kiss, sex scene.' And then I'm like, oh shoot, that's my brother. But it's such a good script that he's like, 'We kind of have to do it.'"
The actress admitted that filming those moments proved just as awkward as they had anticipated. "So, then we put it out of our minds, and then we get on set, and it's the first kissing scene. And we are both retching, like really, it is vile. It was the worst, another really bad moment in my career," Turner said.
About 'The Dreadful'
'The Dreadful' follows Anne, played by Turner, and her mother-in-law Morwen, portrayed by Marcia Gay Harden, who live an isolated existence on the fringes of society. Their lives are disrupted when a mysterious man from their past, played by Harington, returns and sets in motion a series of events that changes Anne's life forever.
