Kolkata TV actors assaulted for feeding stray dogs, actor feared second stroke
Kolkata TV actors assaulted over feeding stray dogs

In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage, popular Bengali television actor couple Sayantani Mullick and Indranil Mullick were allegedly physically assaulted by a group of residents in Kolkata's Kasba area on Friday night. The confrontation erupted over the couple's regular practice of feeding neighborhood stray dogs.

The Violent Confrontation

The incident occurred in the Rajdanga locality on November 30, 2025, where the actor couple along with their assistant Chandan were feeding stray dogs as part of their routine. According to the victims, the situation escalated quickly when locals emerged from a nearby club and confronted them about their activities.

Sayantani revealed that the locals initially complained about increasing stray dog population in the area and alleged that one resident had recently been bitten. The argument intensified when the residents demanded that the couple stop feeding the dogs entirely, claiming that the animals should fend for themselves rather than relying on public feeding.

Physical Assault and Health Concerns

The situation turned violent when the verbal argument escalated into physical assault. Sayantani documented part of the altercation through a Facebook Live session, capturing the heated exchange and threats made against them.

Indranil Mullick sustained visible injuries during the scuffle while trying to protect their staff member Chandan, who was also attacked. Both injured parties required primary medical treatment at Bangur Hospital following the incident.

What made the situation particularly dangerous for Sayantani was her recent medical history. "I had a stroke two months ago and feared for my safety during the altercation. I could have had a second stroke," the actor expressed, highlighting the gravity of the physical confrontation she endured.

Police Response and Investigation

The traumatized couple immediately filed a formal complaint at the Kasba police station after the incident. Police authorities have confirmed receiving the complaint and initiated an investigation into the matter.

A senior police officer stated that they are examining statements from both parties and reviewing available CCTV footage from the area to determine the exact sequence of events. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, some local residents presented a different perspective, claiming that no physical assault occurred and that they merely wanted to discuss the littering issues caused by dog feeding activities. They also expressed concerns about unsterilized dogs frightening children in the neighborhood.

Aftermath and Reactions

The incident has left the actor couple in complete shock and disbelief. "We never thought this could happen for feeding stray dogs, which is the right of every human being," Sayantani shared, emphasizing their commitment to animal welfare.

Several other residents reportedly intervened to rescue the couple and de-escalate the situation, indicating that not all locals supported the aggressive behavior displayed by the attacking group.

The case highlights the ongoing tension between animal feeders and residents in urban areas, raising important questions about community coexistence with stray animals and the right to practice animal welfare activities safely.
