Laura Dern is set to join the cast of 'The White Lotus' following Helena Bonham Carter's abrupt departure last week. According to reports, Dern will not be taking over Bonham Carter's role but will instead portray a new character created by series creator Mike White. Variety confirmed that Dern is playing a fresh role developed specifically for the upcoming season.
The nine-time Emmy Award nominee, who won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series in 2017 for 'Big Little Lies', is taking on her next major role in the hit murder mystery series.
Reason for Helena Bonham Carter's Exit
The cast change occurred days after filming began in the French Riviera. An HBO spokesperson told Deadline, 'With filming just underway on Season 4 of The White Lotus, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set.'
The White Lotus Cast
Dern joins an ensemble cast that includes Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Dylan Ennis, Corentin Fila, Ari Graynor, Marissa Long, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, AJ Michalka, Kumail Nanjiani, and Nadia Tereszkiewicz. Additional cast members include Chloe Bennet, Sandra Bernhard, Heather Graham, Max Greenfield, Frida Gustavsson, Charlie Hall, Jarrad Paul, Rosie Perez, Ben Schnetzer, and Laura Smet.
The White Lotus Plot
According to the official description of Season 4, 'The fourth season will follow a new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over the span of a week, taking place during the Cannes Film Festival. Hotels featured include the Airelles Château de la Messardière as the White Lotus du Cap and the Hôtel Martinez as the White Lotus Cannes. In addition to Cannes, the season will film in St. Tropez, Monaco, and Paris, though the story will remain set in the Côte d'Azur.'
