A 28-year-old man was arrested in Gwalior on charges of raping his 11-year-old niece. According to the police, the accused allegedly dragged the minor into a room, gagged her, and tied her hands and legs before committing the crime.
Incident Details
The victim, a class VI student, has been living with her maternal grandparents since childhood. She had come to her parents' home on May 11 to attend her younger brother's birthday celebration and stayed back for a few days after the function.
The alleged incident occurred around 8 pm on May 13 when the locality experienced a power outage. Due to the intense heat, family members were sitting outside the house. The girl's mother sent her inside to wake up her younger son, who was sleeping in a room, and bring him out. While the boy came out, the girl did not return immediately.
She later came out crying and informed her mother about the assault. However, due to concerns about reputation and social pressure, no complaint was filed for nearly 12 days.
Arrest and Investigation
When the survivor started experiencing stomach pain, the family reported the matter to the police on Monday. The accused was arrested late that night.
Shakti Singh Yadav, in charge of Jhansi Road police station, stated, "Following the complaint, a case was registered and the accused was arrested. The girl is traumatized. The accused is around 28 years old."
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused remains in custody as investigations continue.
