Mayim Bialik, best known for her role in 'The Big Bang Theory,' has been candid about her weight loss journey. In a recent interview, she admitted to relying on medication, revealing that a single dose led to serious health issues.
Mayim Bialik Opens Up About Taking Weight Loss Medication
The actress shared her experience in an open essay published by the Free Press. The 50-year-old revealed she tried one dose of GLP-1 medicine, a popular weight loss drug recommended by her doctors.
"I went on a weight-loss drug because a doctor told me it might help ease symptoms I've struggled with for basically my entire adult life," she wrote. The medication triggered severe gastrointestinal symptoms. Her doctors believed it could help with conditions like Graves' disease, connective tissue disease, mast cell activation syndrome, Sjogren's syndrome, and dysautonomia.
Bialik noted that weight was not a concern during childhood, but during her teenage years, she began gaining weight after taking pills. "I took one shot of the lowest dose of a synthetic GLP-1, and to say I had an adverse reaction would be somewhat of an understatement," she recalled.
Details of Her Symptoms
In her essay, she detailed symptoms including diarrhea, severe bloating, cramping, and full-body aches. She was also unable to keep down food or water.
Career Update
On the work front, Bialik last appeared in the sitcom 'Night Court' last year. She previously hosted 'Jeopardy!' but stepped back to focus on her podcast 'Mayim Bialik's Breakdown,' where she continues to release episodes. She also appeared in the film 'Father Mother Sister Brother' last year.
