Floyd Mayweather Faces Felony Charges Over $200K Watch Purchase in Las Vegas
Mayweather Charged With Felony Over Unpaid Watch

Boxing icon Floyd Mayweather has found himself at the center of a serious legal battle in Las Vegas. The undefeated former world champion is facing felony theft and intent to defraud charges linked to the purchase of a luxury Audemars Piguet watch worth approximately $200,000. Authorities claim Mayweather used a check that could not be honored due to insufficient funds.

The allegations stem from a transaction that reportedly took place in December 2024 at a Las Vegas jewelry store. Prosecutors allege that Mayweather knowingly used a check connected to a Wells Fargo account. This was despite it lacking enough funds to complete the purchase. A court hearing was held on Monday, where the former boxer was represented by his legal team. If convicted, he could face substantial prison time under Nevada law.

Floyd Mayweather Jr Accused of Failing to Pay for Luxury Timepiece

According to court documents, Floyd Mayweather Jr purchased an Audemars Piguet watch from Gold and Beyond, a jewelry store based in Las Vegas. Prosecutors claim the payment was made using a check that could not be processed because the account allegedly lacked sufficient funds.

The complaint further alleges that Mayweather was aware of the financial situation when he completed the transaction. As a result, he now faces two separate felony charges. The theft charge carries a possible prison sentence ranging from one to 20 years, while the intent to defraud charge could result in an additional one to four years behind bars if he is found guilty.

Jewelry Store's Attempts to Resolve the Matter Privately

The jewelry store's attorney explained that his client initially tried to resolve the issue privately. According to the lawyer, the store owner trusted Mayweather and gave him multiple chances to settle the payment without involving the courts. However, after many months allegedly passed without payment or meaningful communication, legal action became the only option.

The attorney stated that the store owner remained patient for a long time because he believed Mayweather would eventually fulfill his obligation. He added that the watch had reportedly remained in Mayweather's possession for more than a year while the business continued waiting for payment.

Mayweather's Ongoing Financial and Legal Disputes

The case comes amid reports that Mayweather is dealing with several financial and legal disputes. The former boxer is already involved in lawsuits against business associates and media companies. Reports have also suggested that he may owe millions of dollars in unpaid taxes, although those matters remain separate from the current criminal case.

Mayweather is still expected to travel overseas later this month for an exhibition bout against Greek fighter Mike Zambidis. His fight with Manny Pacquiao remains uncertain.
