Trailer Park Boys Actor Faces Serious Allegations

Mike Smith, the actor best known for portraying the character Bubbles in the popular comedy series Trailer Park Boys, has been formally charged with sexual assault. The charges relate to an incident alleged to have occurred in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, on 30 December 2017.

Details of the Charge and Company Response

According to court documents filed in the Nova Scotia provincial court, the charge was officially laid against Smith on 2 October. The information was first reported by Variety, which cited details from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).

In response to the developing situation, the production company behind the show, Trailer Park Boys Inc., issued a formal statement. The company confirmed it was aware of the allegation and that Mike Smith has stepped away from his position as the company's managing director.

The statement read, "We recognise how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved." It further emphasized that out of respect for the legal process, the company would not comment further on the case. The responsibilities of managing director have now been assumed by Gary Howsam.

Smith's Career and Past Legal Encounter

Mike Smith stars in "Trailer Park Boys" alongside John Paul Tremblay and Robb Wells. The mockumentary-style show, which first debuted in 2001 on the Canadian network Showcase, was later picked up by Netflix in 2014. The series has produced 116 episodes, along with several films and spin-offs, following the lives of three troublemaking trailer park residents.

This is not the first time Smith has faced legal trouble. Back in 2016, he was arrested in Los Angeles and charged with misdemeanour domestic battery following an alleged incident at a Hollywood hotel. However, those charges were later dropped after both Smith and the alleged victim issued a joint statement denying the claims. The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office confirmed the dismissal, citing a lack of sufficient evidence.

Mike Smith is scheduled to appear in court in Halifax on Monday, November 10 to answer the recent charge.
