A 30-year-old man, Mohammad Nawaz Alam, was brutally murdered in his rented accommodation in the Lalbagh area of Ashok Rajpath in Patna on Saturday morning. The accused, a minor, allegedly sat on his chest and slit his throat with a knife. The incident is suspected to be linked to a love affair involving a minor girl from the victim's family. Nawaz's wife, Nazia Parveen, sustained serious injuries while trying to save him and is battling for life at Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH).
Details of the Incident
According to police, Nawaz worked as a salesman at a mall in Patna. He lived on the third floor of a building owned by Sarfaraz Alam with his wife and their two-year-old daughter. The attack occurred between 6:30 am and 7 am under the Pirbahore police station area while the couple was asleep. The minor accused sneaked into the building and entered their room. Parveen stated that she woke up to find a young boy sitting on her husband's chest, slitting his throat with a knife. When she tried to save him, the attacker stabbed her in the neck and arm. Neighbors heard screams and rushed to the flat, finding Nawaz's body in a pool of blood and Nazia bleeding profusely. Police were informed, and both were taken to the hospital.
Police Investigation
A forensic team collected evidence from the scene, and police scanned CCTV footage to trace the accused. Town DSP I Rajesh Ranjan confirmed that the attacker has been identified and raids are underway. The case appears to stem from a love affair between the minor boy and a minor girl from the victim's family. Both studied in the same school since Class VIII and are currently in Class XII. The girl blocked the boy's number about a month ago. Police visited the school, and the principal identified both students, noting that they had been counseled a few days prior.
Previous Confrontation
On Friday evening, the girl's father caught the boy near a double-decker flyover on a two-wheeler after he allegedly threw two stones at their flat, located on the same floor as Nawaz's residence. The boy managed to flee after the confrontation. DSP Ranjan stated that only one person, the minor boy, was involved in the attack. He entered the house by sliding the bolt through a gap in the steel door. The victim's wife identified the attacker. Despite stab injuries to her throat, she is able to speak, and her statement has been recorded. Her condition remains critical. The motive for killing the girl's relative instead of her father is unclear.
Public Reaction
Angry residents blocked Ashok Rajpath near Patna University by placing the victim's body on the road and burning tires. Hundreds gathered outside the deceased's home, demanding the arrest of the accused. The road was blocked for nearly an hour before police pacified the crowd and cleared traffic.
