A 30-year-old woman was brutally stabbed to death by her former partner inside a private office in Mohali's Sector 66, police said on Friday. The accused, who also worked at the same office, later attempted suicide by consuming a poisonous substance and is currently in critical condition at a local hospital.
Incident Details
The incident took place around 2:30 PM on Thursday when the victim, identified as Priya Sharma, was at her desk. The accused, identified as Rohan Verma, entered the office and allegedly attacked her with a knife. Co-workers rushed to her aid but she succumbed to her injuries on the spot. The accused then fled the scene and attempted suicide at his residence.
Police Response
Police were alerted by office staff and immediately reached the spot. The body has been sent for postmortem examination. A murder case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Senior police officials are investigating the matter.
According to preliminary investigations, the victim and accused had been in a relationship that ended a few months ago. The accused was reportedly disturbed by the breakup and had been harassing the victim. The victim had filed a complaint with the police earlier, but no action was taken.
Accused in Critical Condition
The accused is currently admitted to the ICU of a government hospital. Doctors have stated that his condition is critical. Police are waiting for him to recover to record his statement.
