Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee has firmly denied recent rumors suggesting her retirement from the film industry. In an exclusive conversation, the veteran star clarified that she is not only healthy but actively seeking meaningful acting opportunities. She also disclosed that her younger daughter, Meghaa, now handles her professional commitments.
Addressing the Long Hiatus
Speaking with Mid-day, Chatterjee stated, "Who said I am retiring? Not only am I well enough to work, but I am selective about it. If acting work comes my way that meets my price, terms and conditions, is interesting, and of substantial standards, I am very much open to it. Please do not take anyone else's word." She explained that her absence from the screen was due to personal grief. "I wasn't shooting regularly as I was grieving my elder daughter, Payal's death. That is why there was a long gap for a few years. Though I have never been very busy, now I am very choosy about what I do. When Payal passed away I couldn't work for three to four years," she revealed.
Desire for Substantial Roles
Chatterjee shared that work has always found its way to her without her having to seek it out. "I have never visited anybody's office and asked for work. God has been not just kind but partial to me," she said. While grateful for her career, she admitted missing seeing herself on screen and is eager to return with a role that has real substance. "I cannot do just any role like a mother saying, 'Beta aa jao, khana khaa lo'. I would love to do a role which has at least one or two good scenes and suits my age," she emphasized. Going further, she expressed interest in experimenting with a challenging grey character. "It would be a challenge for me, but there has to be some substance in the role. Actors are like water — they will take any shape you put them in," she reflected.
Recent Work and Projects
Moushumi was recently seen in the 2025 Bengali film 'Aarii', alongside Yash Dasgupta, and also appeared in a television commercial with Sonakshi Sinha. She has made guest appearances on popular TV shows. On the Hindi film front, her last release was the acclaimed 'Piku' in 2015.
