MrBeast Sues MHQ Over $5M Advance for Beast Games

YouTuber MrBeast is reportedly entangled in a legal dispute with Toronto-based production company MHQ over his reality show Beast Games. According to a report by Toronto Life published on April 24, 2026, MrBeast's company, MRB2024, LLC, has filed a lawsuit to recover $5 million that was paid to MHQ during the early planning stages of the show.

Background of the Payment

The money was reportedly sent in May 2024 as an advance for production services when the team was preparing to film the first season of Beast Games in Toronto. However, after plans suddenly changed and the working relationship broke down, MrBeast's company claimed that MHQ did not complete the work and should return the funds. MHQ strongly denied this assertion, stating that it had already performed substantial work for the project.

MrBeast's Claims vs. MHQ's Defense

According to Toronto Life, MrBeast's company first contacted MHQ in spring 2024 with an ambitious plan to film and release Beast Games by December of that same year. The production required space, staff, and planning for more than 1,000 contestants and crew members, making it one of the largest projects the company had ever handled. As part of the agreement, MRB2024 reportedly paid MHQ $5 million on May 23, 2024.

Soon after, MrBeast's team decided to move production to Atlanta and terminated its deal with MHQ. However, that plan reportedly failed within a week, and the team wanted to return to Toronto. By then, MHQ refused to re-engage with the project. MrBeast's company then had to restart production in Toronto with a different production partner. MRB2024 later demanded the full $5 million back, arguing that there was no proof that MHQ had spent the money on the show.

MHQ disagreed and stated that it had already provided records showing where the funds were allocated. The company argued that the payment was not solely for direct costs but also covered its full commitment, including staff time, company resources, and the opportunity cost of turning down other projects to focus on Beast Games.

Court Documents Reveal Key Arguments

In court documents shared by Toronto Life, MHQ stated, "MHQ has been unfairly tarred by association with Beast in that regard, without receiving any of the corresponding benefit (whether financial or in the form of an executive producer credit) that should have accrued to it as a result of its work on the production." The company also claimed, "In practical terms, MHQ created the blueprint that enabled the show to be executed successfully."

MHQ has now filed a counterclaim seeking an additional $5 million. The case has not yet been decided by the court.
