Prateek Yadav, the son of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and husband of Aparna Yadav, passed away at the age of 38 in a Lucknow hospital on Wednesday. He had been battling a prolonged illness and was undergoing treatment at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences.

Following the news of his demise, several political leaders expressed their grief and offered condolences to the bereaved family. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath tweeted, "Deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Prateek Yadav. My heartfelt condolences to the family. May his soul rest in peace." Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, who is Prateek's cousin, also paid tribute, saying, "Prateek was like a younger brother to me. His loss is irreparable. I stand with Aparna and the family in this hour of grief."
Family Background
Prateek Yadav was the youngest son of Mulayam Singh Yadav and was married to Aparna Yadav, the daughter of former Union Minister Beni Prasad Verma. The couple had two children. Prateek was relatively low-profile and stayed away from active politics, unlike his elder brother Akhilesh Yadav. He was known for his philanthropic work and was actively involved in the management of the family's educational institutions.
Health Struggles
According to family sources, Prateek had been suffering from liver-related ailments for the past few months. He was admitted to the hospital in critical condition last week and was under the supervision of a team of doctors. Despite their best efforts, he succumbed to his illness on Wednesday morning.
Political Reactions
Several other political figures, including Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Union Minister Smriti Irani, expressed their sorrow. Priyanka wrote on social media, "Extremely saddened to hear about the passing of Prateek Yadav. My thoughts and prayers are with Aparna and the family." Smriti Irani said, "Prateek's sudden demise is a shock. May God give strength to the family to bear this loss."
The funeral is expected to take place on Thursday at the family's native village in Saifai, Etawah. Security arrangements have been tightened for the event, with a large number of party workers and supporters expected to attend.
