A 36-year-old homemaker residing in a Charkop housing society in Mumbai has been apprehended by the police for orchestrating a burglary at her neighbour's residence. The accused allegedly provided a duplicate key to an acquaintance, who then executed the theft of gold jewellery valued at Rs 34 lakh.

On April 13, a 40-year-old woman filed a complaint at the Charkop police station, reporting that a vault containing 240 grams of gold ornaments had been stolen from her home. The theft occurred on the night of April 12. Upon investigation, police noted the absence of forced entry, indicating that a duplicate key had been used to access the house.
Investigation and Arrest
The Charkop police scrutinized CCTV footage and conducted a technical analysis of cellphone tower data, which led them to a 43-year-old man who had fled to his hometown in Satara. Collaborating with local authorities in Satara, the police tracked him down. During interrogation, the suspect revealed that he had hidden the stolen vault at a relative's residence. A search of that property resulted in the recovery of the vault with all the gold jewellery intact.
Further questioning uncovered the involvement of the 36-year-old homemaker, who was acquainted with the thief and lived in the same neighbourhood as the victim. She was subsequently arrested for her role in the crime.
Recovery and Legal Proceedings
The police have successfully recovered the stolen gold and are continuing their investigation. Both accused individuals are in custody and face charges related to theft and criminal conspiracy.
