Nathan Barnatt is drawing significant attention ahead of his upcoming Misfits Boxing bout, but many fans recognize him more by his alter ego, Dad. The 45-year-old internet personality has emerged as one of the most unconventional figures in influencer boxing, and he is now gearing up to face Turkish streamer and MMA fighter Ediz Tasci on Saturday. The fight will headline the latest Misfits Boxing event. Barnatt recently made headlines during the fight week press conference, where his wide-eyed stare and perpetual smile became a hot topic among online viewers. However, this is not the first time the Massachusetts native has gone viral.
The Dad Character and Its Origins
The YouTuber, actor, and comedian gained widespread fame through his Dad character, a bizarre online persona who claims to have been created in a laboratory and unleashed into the world. This character helped Barnatt cultivate a loyal following on social media and later propelled him into the realm of influencer boxing. His popularity surged further after UFC commentator Joe Rogan mistakenly believed that Barnatt had defeated his own son in a boxing match. The misunderstanding spread rapidly online and became one of the most discussed moments in Barnatt's boxing career.
Nathan Barnatt Explains Dad and Responds to Joe Rogan
Speaking to SunSport, Nathan Barnatt remained in character while detailing Dad's unusual backstory. "Dad appeared in 2018, and then I was released upon the world in 2019 in the care of The Facility." He added, "It is a place in Southwest North America, located deep in the desert, and there is a lot of activity going on there. They create nice dads like me." Before entering boxing, Barnatt had already built a career in entertainment, appearing in television shows and films. He also became known for another character, Keith Apicary, who even appeared on America's Got Talent, reaching the quarter-finals before elimination. When asked about Dad's purpose, Barnatt told SunSport, "To be the greatest YouTuber and pop star in the universe. I am a pop star. I have many albums. I box too for fun, but mostly a pop star."
Boxing Career and Joe Rogan Misunderstanding
Barnatt's boxing career began in influencer events, and he has won both of his fights so far. One of those victories came against Matt Watson in 2022. After that fight, Joe Rogan criticized what he thought was a father beating his son in the ring. Barnatt later clarified the confusion: "No, that was not my son. He was only about 11 years younger than me. I do not have a son. I only have a daughter. Her name is Daughter." Now, Barnatt faces what he believes will be his toughest challenge yet against Ediz Tasci, who won his MMA debut in 2025. "I think it will be a great match. I think it will be my biggest test for sure against the biggest man I have ever had to punch," Barnatt said. He also added, "Ediz, you are a naughty boy. It is time for your spanking."
