Mumbai: More than 1,400 clerical staff of all Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) and border check posts across Maharashtra will go on an indefinite pen-down strike from June 16. The strike is to press for their demands, including pending promotions that have been denied for the past four years. This could severely impact RTO-related work in Mumbai and the rest of the state.
Union's Warning
Surendra Sartape, general secretary of the Motor Vahan Vibhag Karamachari Sanghatana Maharashtra, stated that in the past, a few meetings were held with Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, and a petition was submitted to Transport Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar, but to no avail. “This time, we want immediate redressal, else the indefinite strike will prolong and will impact government work at all RTOs and border check posts of the state,” he warned.
No Comment from Officials
Transport department officials were unavailable for comment on the matter. The strike is expected to cause delays in vehicle registration, driving license issuance, and other RTO services.
