Nicholas Galitzine, with his bulky body, consumed over 5000 calories a day to create the sturdy look for his role in 'Masters of the Universe.' However, during the audition rounds, the 31-year-old actor had his doubts, which he expressed to director Travis Knight. Here is a closer look at Nicholas Galitzine's thoughts before donning the role of He-Man.
Galitzine's Initial Doubts
Sharing his train of thought, Nicholas Galitzine claimed that he asked the director whether he was sure about casting him as the lead in the superhero live-action film. "When I first tried on the costume, I felt like a fraud," he said in an interview with People, before adding, "I said to [director] Travis [Knight], 'Are you sure you don't want anyone else?'"
Knowing that the physical transformation was going to be a significant challenge, he tried to achieve the goal with a stern driving force. "Nothing of that magnitude was ever going to be easy. But the thing that Travis saw in me, and the thing I knew I could do when I read the script," he said, continuing with mentioning important things to keep in his mind, "was embody this character — someone who, without his brawn, has many other superpowers in the way he sees people, sees the best in them, and is able to be vulnerable."
Dealing with Doubtful Thoughts
Moreover, Galitzine mentioned how he trusted the process and the experts working on the film. He was given enough time to eat a lot of food and lift a lot of weights. Sharing that he was cast in mid-2024, the 'Purple Hearts' actor expressed that his doubts kicked in. However, he went home, re-energised, and came back with a lot of perspective. "Saying goodbye at the end was probably the hardest I've had to make in my career," he said.
Directed by Travis Knight, 'Masters of the Universe' hits theatres on June 5, 2026, starring Nicholas Galitzine and Camila Mendes. The film promises to bring the iconic character He-Man to life with a fresh perspective, blending action and vulnerability.
