Nicolas Cage, one of the most versatile actors of his generation, captivated audiences worldwide with his eerie and terrifying portrayal of Longlegs in the 2024 horror film. Now, with confirmation that another project set in the same universe is already in motion, Cage could not be happier. In a recent interview, the veteran actor opened up about the film and his experience working on it.
Nicolas Cage Talks About Working on 'Longlegs' 2
It was confirmed last month that Cage and director Osgood Perkins are collaborating on a second 'Longlegs' film, and both are extremely excited about the project. While attending the premiere of his upcoming project 'Spider Noir', Cage shared his anticipation for returning to the role. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he said, 'I guess you could say I have the pride of ownership of that character.' He elaborated that the character felt personal because of the unique approach he took to portray the serial killer. 'That character is personal to me because I was influenced by my mom — not that my mom was crazy like that, she wasn’t satanic, but I don’t want someone else playing my mom, so if they’re gonna do it, you’re doing it with me,' Cage explained.
He then quipped that another reason the project is moving forward is his strong friendship with Perkins. When asked about the plot of the second film, Cage admitted he is still in the dark. 'I don’t know what the story is, and I have not met the new Paramount,' he commented. Not many details have been revealed about the upcoming film, but according to reports, the estimated release date for 'Longlegs' has been set for January 14, 2028. The film will not be a direct sequel but will instead be set in the same universe as the first movie.
About the 2024 Film 'Longlegs'
The premise of the 2024 horror film is set in the 1990s, where an occult-inspired serial killer is terrorizing a community. When an FBI agent is sent to the town to uncover the killer's identity, the mystery slowly unravels. The 2024 film stars Maika Monroe as Lee Harker, Nicolas Cage as Longlegs, Blair Underwood as Agent William Carter, Alicia Witt as Ruth Harker, Michelle Choi-Lee as Agent Browning, Dakota Daulby as Agent Fisk, and Kiernan Shipka as Carrie Anne Camera, Longlegs' only survivor. The film received critical acclaim for its chilling atmosphere and Cage's transformative performance.
Fans are eagerly awaiting more updates on the sequel, which promises to expand the dark universe introduced in the original. Cage's dedication to the role and his personal connection to the character ensure that the upcoming project will be just as compelling.
