Kolkata: Just a week after the shooting of ‘Kone Dekha Alo' (KDA) — produced by Organinic Studios, of which Leena Gangopadhyay was a board member — resumed, a letter has been sent to all office-bearers of the Artists' Forum, questioning under what legal or statutory authority it imposed conditions on the board composition of a private limited company.
Forum's demand and deadline
The letter follows the Forum's demand for Gangopadhyay's removal from Organinic's board within seven days, failing which it could reconsider participation in the shooting. The seven-day deadline elapsed on Friday, with the fate of KDA now hanging in balance.
Organinic's response
On Friday, Organinic director Arka Ganguly wrote to Forum president Ranjit Mallick, working president Prosenjit Chatterjee, general secretary Shantilal Mukherjee and 21 executive committee members, including Rituparna Sengupta, Saswata Chatterjee, Abir Chatterjee, Bidipta Chakraborty, Debdut Ghosh and Diganta Bagchi. A Forum member confirmed receipt of the letter to TOI.
According to a source with Organinic, it was agreed that Gangopadhyay would be designated as a non-executive director. However, the Forum's current demands have escalated, seeking her complete removal from the business, despite no such demands being made by KDA actors. The letter asks why the Forum has allegedly made criminal intimidation to KDA actors if they adhered to the call time when the ban was imposed. When all 38 KDA actors have formally declared that they felt no security threat or had grievances against Organinic, and have made no demand for any resignation, under what authority did the Forum impose such a ban?
Clarification sought
Clarification has been sought on whether any internal vote or consultation took place on April 4 before the ban was announced on April 7, along with the relevant rule, meeting notice, quorum details, resolutions, attendance record, minutes and a certified copy of the constitution. A point-by-point reply has been sought within seven days.
