Candace Owens has ignited a fresh wave of online debate after responding to a New York Times report concerning a phone call between President Donald Trump and Charlie Kirk prior to Kirk's assassination. The controversy began when Owens shared her thoughts on X, leading Laura Loomer to accuse her of suggesting that Trump was responsible for Kirk's death, though Owens never directly made that claim.
The New York Times Report
The discussion originated from a New York Times article by Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, which reported that Trump was displeased with criticism regarding the handling of past files. According to the report, Trump allegedly called Charlie Kirk after a Turning Point USA event where speakers criticized Attorney General Pam Bondi's response to the issue.
Owens' Reaction
Reacting to the report, Candace Owens posted on X: "Absolutely wild to learn that Donald Trump called Charlie and reprimanded him about his coverage of the Epstein Files. On July 12th, the day after I keep insisting I made a decision to kill Charlie according to our timeline." While her wording drew attention, Owens did not explicitly accuse Trump of involvement in Kirk's death but linked the report to her own timeline of events.
Laura Loomer's Response
Laura Loomer swiftly criticized Owens, accusing her of constantly shifting her claims. In a separate post, Loomer mocked Owens' comments and questioned her earlier suggestions about potential involvement in Kirk's assassination. Owens has previously raised questions about the official narrative, though many of her claims remain unsubstantiated.
Social Media Divided
The exchange between Loomer and Owens quickly spread across social media, dividing users. Some rejected Owens' theories, with one user writing, "I wonder if Candace latches on to these insane theories because she herself thinks it’s perfectly reasonable to kill somebody if they mildly upset you one time." Another added, "Candace, you’re destroying everything Charlie worked for. Why would you destroy something if you were his friend?"
Conversely, supporters defended Owens, arguing her questions merit attention. One supporter wrote, "100% agree. I’ve felt for a long time that there is far more to this story than we’ve been told." Another added, "Candace is saying what a lot of people are thinking. The timeline is unsettling, and the optics around all of this are terrible."
Context of Kirk's Death
Charlie Kirk was assassinated on September 10, 2025, during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. As of now, neither Donald Trump nor Erika Kirk have publicly responded to Owens' latest remarks.
Despite the heated debate, there is no evidence that Candace Owens directly accused Donald Trump of killing Charlie Kirk. The online argument continues as supporters and critics interpret her comments differently.
