Jaipur: Renowned physician and Padma Shri awardee Dr S R Mehta passed away at the age of 95 here on Thursday, leaving the medical fraternity in mourning. He was widely regarded as one of Rajasthan’s most respected doctors and medical educators. His last rites were performed with state honours at the Adarsh Nagar cremation ground.
A Life Dedicated to Medicine
Dr Mehta served as the principal of SMS Medical College and headed SMS Hospital during his medical career spanning over seven decades. He was associated with several top medical bodies, including the Medical Council of India, the Indian Medical Association, the National Board of Examinations, the Rajasthan Medical Council, and AIIMS advisory panels.
Honours and Recognition
Known for his clinical expertise and ethical medical practice, Dr Mehta received several honours for his contribution to medicine. Among them were the prestigious Dr B C Roy National Award and the Rajasthan Shri award. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah was among his students at SMS Medical College.
Dr Mehta’s demise marks the end of an era in the medical field. His dedication to education and patient care will be remembered by generations of doctors and patients alike. The state government accorded him full honours, reflecting his immense contribution to healthcare in Rajasthan and beyond.
