Poonam Dhillon Mourns Pahlaj Nihalani's Demise

Veteran actor and Cine & TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA) President Poonam Dhillon paid heartfelt tributes to late film producer and former Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairman Pahlaj Nihalani, expressing shock and sadness over his demise. Nihalani passed away on June 4 at the age of 76, leaving behind a rich legacy in the Hindi film industry as a producer of several popular movies and as the head of the film certification body.

Poonam Dhillon Recalls Decades-Long Friendship

In an emotional conversation with ANI, Poonam Dhillon reminisced about her long-standing friendship with Nihalani, which spanned over three to four decades. She revealed that the news of his passing came as a profound shock. "I actually just received the news that Pahlaj ji is no longer with us, and it is both very shocking and deeply painful. We had been friends for many years, and I think our friendship must have lasted at least 30 or 40 years. We met often, usually in informal settings. I never had the opportunity to work with him professionally," she stated.

A Loyal Friend Remembered

Describing Nihalani as a loyal and dependable companion, Dhillon added, "He was a very loyal friend. He truly knew how to honour and maintain a friendship." Her words reflected the deep bond they shared, built over decades of mutual respect and affection, despite never collaborating on a film project.

Pahlaj Nihalani's Illustrious Career

Pahlaj Nihalani was a prominent figure in Bollywood, known for producing a string of successful films. His filmography includes notable titles such as Ilzaam, Shola Aur Shabnam, Aankhen, and Andaz. He also had a long-standing professional association with filmmaker David Dhawan and actor Govinda, contributing to several hit movies. Nihalani began his journey as a film producer in the early 1980s, with his first production Haathkadi released in 1982, followed by Aandhi-Toofan in 1985. Over the years, he backed numerous films including Gunahon Ka Faisla, Paap Ki Duniya, Mitti Aur Sona, Shola Aur Shabnam, and Aankhen. Among these, Aankhen became one of the biggest Bollywood hits of the 1990s. Apart from producing, Nihalani also served as the chairman of the CBFC, and in his later years, he produced the 2017 film Julie 2.

Family Confirms Demise

Nihalani's family confirmed the news in a statement, which read: "With profound grief, we inform you of the passing of our beloved Pahlaj Nihalani on 4th June 2026. The cremation ceremony will be held today, 04.06.2026 at 3 pm at Santacruz Hindu Crematorium. We are grateful for your thoughts and prayers as we bid a final farewell." The industry and fans alike mourn the loss of a stalwart who contributed significantly to Indian cinema.
