Qawwali Night at Mehrauli Park Enchants Delhi Audience

The Qutub Minar was silhouetted against the evening sky, while the sounds of peacocks and flowing fountains set the stage as the Niazi Nizami Brothers' qawwali echoed through Mehrauli Archaeological Park earlier this month. Hosted by the Delhi Development Authority and the Archaeological Survey of India to mark the International Day for Monuments and Sites, celebrated on April 18, the evening also featured an exhibition tracing the park's restoration.

Spellbinding Performance

The qawwali group left the audience spellbound with classics like Afreen Afreen, Chhap Tilak, Khwaja Mere Khwaja, and Mere Rashke Qamar. The atmosphere was electric as the brothers, known for their soulful renditions, connected deeply with the crowd.

Warm Welcome for Artists

Entering to the beats of their band, the Niazi Nizami Brothers started with a sher for Delhiites. One of the brothers, Imran Nizami, said, "We are your own Niazi Nizami Brothers, from the Dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, at your service. I would like to start with a couplet because this Delhi of ours, the city of hearts, artists are greatly appreciated here, given much love and respect. Bringing a message of happiness, Niazi Nizami Brothers salute you all."

Evening Activities

As the sun slowly set, the evening began with a heritage walk, with the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, in attendance. Engaging the audience, the Nizami brothers took song requests from the guests. As dusk fell, the musical soiree turned into a dance floor when the qawwals said, "Those who want to make this evening memorable, please dance." Even as the evening drew to a close, the notes of their qawwali lingered in the air for a while.

Exhibition and Restoration

The exhibition showcased the meticulous restoration work undertaken at Mehrauli Archaeological Park, highlighting the efforts to preserve this historical site. Visitors were able to appreciate the blend of heritage and music, making the event a unique cultural experience.

The event was a testament to Delhi's rich cultural tapestry, where history and art come together to create unforgettable moments. The Niazi Nizami Brothers' performance was a highlight, reminding everyone of the timeless appeal of qawwali music.
