R Madhavan Opens Up About Parenting Son Vedaant and Move to Dubai
R Madhavan on Parenting Vedaant and Dubai Move

R Madhavan has been candid about his relationship with his son, Vedaant, and the support he provides. In a 2025 interview with The Hindu, the actor discussed the family's relocation to Dubai to enable Vedaant to pursue professional swimming training. Madhavan rated himself a "6/10" as a parent, acknowledging the challenges of the move and other family adjustments.

Decision to Move to Dubai

During the COVID-19 lockdown, Madhavan and his wife Sarita Birje decided to shift to Dubai to support their son's athletic career. He explained, "It was an essential decision taken at the right moment. Vedaant was going through his growth spurt as a teenager, and not having a pool to swim would have meant the end of his international swimming career." This move underscored the family's commitment to Vedaant's development as a swimmer.

Parenting Philosophy

In a recent interview with Kumudam, Madhavan elaborated on his parenting approach, emphasizing treating Vedaant as an adult from a young age. He stated, "I have always treated him as an adult since a very young age, be it talking about sexual touch or using a condom. Since the age of 4, I've been talking freely with him. This has instilled a kind of trust in him, like 'my father treats me with respect'; this has made him feel responsible as well. This became easy for me to communicate." The actor also mentioned having open conversations about life, including the birds and bees talk.
