Ramya Ranganathan on Meesaya Murukku 2 and Anbe Diana

After making her debut last year with Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam (NEEK), Ramya Ranganathan is quickly building an impressive lineup. The actress will next be seen in Hiphop Tamizha Adhi's Meesaya Murukku 2 and Pari Elavazhagan's Anbe Diana.

A Fan of Meesaya Murukku

Recalling how she came on board for Meesaya Murukku 2, Ramya shares, "I am a big fan of Meesaya Murukku. I cried when 'Vaadi Pulla Vaadi' played on screen. There was a lot of excitement to be part of the sequel, and when I got the call from Hiphop Tamizha's office, I wanted to jump out of excitement."

Choosing Versatile Roles

Ramya is conscious about taking up roles that do not typecast her. In Meesaya Murukku 2, she plays a rooted Tamil girl, while in Anbe Diana, she portrays an Anglo-Indian. "Both roles are completely different from each other and from my NEEK character. It was a conscious decision to choose them, as I get to show my versatility. I don't want to get typecast and only do specific types of roles. I am looking for films that add more value to me as an artiste," she explains.

Regarding Anbe Diana, she adds, "Pari sir has played with different cultures, geographies, and dialects in the film. I also interacted with Anglo-Indians from Perambur during the shoot and observed their body language. Even though I am from Chennai, I had not explored Perambur, and it almost felt like a completely different city altogether."

On Being One of Many Female Leads

Ramya was one of multiple female leads in NEEK, and the same is the case in Meesaya Murukku 2. However, she is clear about her priorities. "I don't mind being one of the female leads or the only female lead. I don't look at scripts that way as long as my characters are well-written, presented well, and add significance to the film. I just look at how the film as a whole is presented. If a film can bring the best out of me, I go ahead and do it. I don't stick to a method," she asserts.
